This Privacy Policy explains how TrameWeaver handles personal information when you use the TrameWeaver website, web app, desktop app, Cloud services, make a purchase, or contact us.
TrameWeaver is operated from Australia by Gaëtan Selle trading as TrameWeaver (ABN 36 440 385 792).
Contact: hello@trameweaver.com
1.The short version
TrameWeaver is built around a few straightforward privacy principles:
- TrameWeaver is local-first. Local projects remain on your device unless you choose to use a Cloud feature that uploads them.
- Your writing belongs to you. We do not claim ownership of your projects.
- We do not sell your writing or your personal information.
- Your private projects are not made public by TrameWeaver.
- We do not use your writing to train AI models.
- We do not currently use advertising trackers or behavioural advertising in the TrameWeaver website or app.
- Payment-card details are handled by Paddle, our Merchant of Record. TrameWeaver does not receive or store your full card number or card security code.
- We collect and retain only the information reasonably needed to operate accounts, licences, Cloud, billing, security, support, and the TrameWeaver service.
The rest of this policy explains those points in more detail.
2.Information we collect
The information we collect depends on how you use TrameWeaver.
Account information
When you create or use a TrameWeaver account, we process information such as:
- your email address;
- your account identifier;
- authentication and sign-in information;
- account creation and relevant activity timestamps;
- your current Free, Pro, or Cloud entitlement status; and
- technical records needed to keep your account and entitlements working correctly.
We use this information to let you sign in, provide the appropriate features, maintain account security, and support your account.
Local project data
Projects that you keep local remain on your device.
Depending on how you use TrameWeaver, local project data may be stored in your browser, in application storage, or in files on your device.
TrameWeaver does not upload a local-only project merely because you use the app.
Exporting or saving a file to your own device also does not send that project's contents to TrameWeaver.
Cloud project data
If you choose to use TrameWeaver Cloud, the project information required for that feature is uploaded and stored against your account.
This may include:
- project titles;
- screenplay or manuscript content;
- scenes, characters, notes, story structure and other project content;
- project metadata;
- synchronisation information;
- Cloud versions or history; and
- technical information needed to keep Cloud copies consistent across supported devices.
Your writing may naturally contain personal, private, sensitive, fictional, or other information that you choose to include in your project. We process that content only as necessary to provide and operate the Cloud service, maintain its security, provide support when requested, comply with law, or protect the service and its users.
Using local-only projects avoids uploading that project content to TrameWeaver Cloud.
Purchase and billing information
Paid TrameWeaver purchases are processed by Paddle, which acts as our Merchant of Record.
Paddle collects the information required to complete the transaction, which may include your name, email address, billing location, payment details, tax information, and other information necessary for payment processing and fraud prevention.
Paddle provides TrameWeaver with information required to fulfil and support your purchase. This can include:
- the email or account associated with the purchase;
- Paddle customer, transaction, subscription, or adjustment identifiers;
- the product or price purchased;
- transaction amount and currency;
- payment, refund, subscription, and transaction status;
- relevant purchase, renewal, cancellation, refund, or adjustment dates; and
- related information needed for entitlement fulfilment, reconciliation, fraud prevention, billing support, and record keeping.
TrameWeaver also creates internal billing records so that we can reliably grant or revoke Pro and Cloud access, process billing events, reconcile our records with Paddle, investigate failures, and provide support.
TrameWeaver does not receive or store your full payment-card number or card security code.
Paddle separately handles personal information under its own privacy notice.
Support and communications
If you contact us by email, Discord, or another support channel, we receive the information you choose to provide.
That may include your email address, account information, screenshots, project excerpts, diagnostic information, or other material you send while asking for help.
Please avoid sending sensitive information that is not relevant to your support request.
Email information
We use an email service provider to send operational communications such as:
- sign-in or account-related messages where applicable;
- purchase and billing notices;
- service or security notices;
- important account communications; and
- other transactional messages.
Where you separately choose to receive product news or marketing communications, we may also use your email address for those messages.
Our email provider may process delivery information such as whether a message was delivered or bounced and, where enabled, whether an email was opened or a link was clicked.
We use this information for message delivery, troubleshooting and communication effectiveness, not for behavioural advertising.
You can unsubscribe from optional marketing communications using the unsubscribe mechanism provided with those messages. Necessary account, security, billing, or service messages may still be sent while you have an active account or service.
Technical and security information
When you use an online part of TrameWeaver, our infrastructure providers may generate ordinary technical records such as:
- IP address;
- browser or application type;
- operating system or device information;
- request date and time;
- requested page or API endpoint;
- error information;
- security and abuse-prevention signals; and
- server or infrastructure logs.
We use this information to operate, secure, diagnose, and maintain the service.
The desktop app may also contact TrameWeaver infrastructure to check for or download software updates. Those requests can generate similar ordinary network and server information.
We do not currently use this technical information to build advertising profiles.
3.Why we use personal information
Depending on the circumstances, we use personal information to:
- create and administer accounts;
- authenticate users and protect account access;
- provide Free, Pro, desktop, and Cloud functionality;
- store and synchronise Cloud projects when requested;
- fulfil purchases and maintain licences and entitlements;
- process and reconcile payment, refund, and subscription events;
- send transactional and service communications;
- answer support requests;
- diagnose bugs and service failures;
- prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
- maintain records required for accounting, taxation, dispute resolution, or legal compliance;
- enforce our Terms of Use;
- improve the reliability and operation of TrameWeaver; and
- comply with applicable legal obligations.
We do not use your private writing for advertising.
We do not use your writing to train AI models.
4.Legal bases where GDPR or UK GDPR applies
If the European Union General Data Protection Regulation, UK GDPR, or similar laws apply to our processing, the legal basis depends on what we are doing.
We may process information because:
- it is necessary to perform our contract with you, for example to operate your account, licence, or Cloud service;
- we have a legitimate interest, for example in securing the service, preventing fraud, providing support, maintaining billing records, and improving reliability, where those interests are not overridden by your rights;
- processing is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, for example accounting, taxation, or lawful requests; or
- you have given consent, for example for certain optional communications where consent is required.
Where processing depends on consent, you can withdraw that consent for future processing.
5.Cookies and local browser storage
TrameWeaver does not currently use advertising cookies or third-party behavioural advertising trackers.
The website and web app may use cookies, browser storage, or similar technology where necessary for functions such as:
- authentication and session management;
- local project storage;
- preferences and application settings;
- security;
- Cloud synchronisation bookkeeping; and
- other essential app functionality.
Some local information exists only on your device.
Clearing browser or application storage can permanently remove local projects or preferences that have not been exported, saved elsewhere, or stored in Cloud.
When you open Paddle's checkout or other third-party services, those services may use their own cookies or similar technologies under their own privacy policies.
If we introduce non-essential analytics or tracking technology in future, we will update this policy and provide any notice or consent mechanism required by applicable law.
6.Service providers
We use a limited number of providers to operate TrameWeaver.
These currently include:
- Supabase — authentication, account database, Cloud project storage and related backend infrastructure;
- Vercel — hosting for TrameWeaver web services, applications and APIs;
- Paddle — Merchant of Record, checkout, payment processing, taxation, transaction administration, subscription administration, refunds and related fraud prevention;
- Brevo — transactional and, where applicable, optional email communication;
- Cloudflare — DNS, email-routing and parts of TrameWeaver's download or software-update infrastructure; and
- Discord — optional community and support communication if you choose to use it.
These providers process information only for the purposes relevant to the services they provide, subject to their applicable contracts and privacy terms.
Paddle has a separate relationship with purchasers as Merchant of Record and processes purchase information under its own privacy notice.
7.International processing and disclosure
TrameWeaver is operated from Australia, but we use service providers with infrastructure and operations in other countries.
As a result, personal information may be processed or disclosed outside Australia, including through infrastructure or organisations located in or operating from regions such as the United States, United Kingdom and European Union, as well as other locations used by our service providers.
Where Australian privacy law applies to an overseas disclosure, we take reasonable steps appropriate to the circumstances to use providers and arrangements that protect personal information consistently with applicable requirements.
Where European or UK data-transfer rules apply, our providers may rely on recognised contractual safeguards, adequacy arrangements, or other lawful transfer mechanisms.
Because infrastructure locations can change, we review our provider arrangements periodically.
8.How long we keep information
We do not keep every type of information for the same amount of time.
Account information
Account information is generally retained while your TrameWeaver account remains active.
If your account is deleted, account information is removed or de-identified where reasonably possible, except where we need to retain particular records for legal, security, fraud-prevention, dispute, transaction, or other legitimate purposes.
Cloud projects
Cloud project data is kept while you maintain it in TrameWeaver Cloud or while it is otherwise needed to provide the Cloud service.
When you delete a Cloud project, it is removed from your account immediately. The deleted project is retained for up to 30 days before being permanently deleted, together with its version history. This limited retention period allows recovery in case of accidental deletion.
Billing records
Purchase, transaction, refund, subscription, entitlement, audit, and related billing records may need to be kept after an account or entitlement ends.
We may retain these records where reasonably necessary for:
- accounting and taxation;
- proving purchases and licences;
- transaction reconciliation;
- fraud and chargeback prevention;
- resolving disputes;
- support history; and
- legal or regulatory obligations.
Paddle independently retains transaction and payment information according to its own legal and privacy obligations.
Support records
Support correspondence may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to answer the request, maintain useful support history, resolve disputes, improve recurring support issues, or meet legal requirements.
Local projects
TrameWeaver does not control the retention of local-only project data on your own device.
You can delete local projects or exported files through the relevant app, browser, operating system, or file-management tools.
9.Account deletion
You can request deletion of your TrameWeaver account by contacting:
Account deletion may remove access to licences, Cloud projects, and other account-linked features, so you should export any projects you want to keep before requesting deletion.
Deleting a TrameWeaver account does not necessarily mean that every record connected with the account can immediately be erased.
We may retain limited information where reasonably necessary or legally required for matters such as:
- financial and tax records;
- purchase and refund evidence;
- fraud prevention;
- security;
- chargebacks and disputes;
- legal claims; or
- compliance with applicable law.
Where possible, records no longer requiring a direct personal identifier may be deleted or de-identified.
Account deletion also does not automatically delete information that Paddle independently holds as Merchant of Record. Requests concerning information held directly by Paddle may need to be made to Paddle.
10.Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live and which privacy laws apply, you may have rights concerning your personal information.
These may include rights to:
- know what personal information we hold about you;
- access that information;
- correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
- request deletion;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
- receive certain information in a portable format; and
- complain to an applicable privacy regulator.
You may exercise a privacy right by contacting:
We may need to verify your identity before giving access to or changing account information.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right.
Australia
Where the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and Australian Privacy Principles apply, you may request access to or correction of personal information we hold about you.
If you believe your personal information has been mishandled, please contact us first so we can investigate.
If you are not satisfied with our response and the Privacy Act applies to the matter, you may also be able to complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
European Economic Area and United Kingdom
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, you may have rights including access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection, data portability and withdrawal of consent.
You may also lodge a complaint with the data-protection authority that applies where you live.
11.Privacy complaints
If you have a privacy concern or complaint, email:
Please describe the issue and provide enough information for us to investigate it.
We will review the complaint and respond within a reasonable period. If more information is needed, we may ask you for it.
This process does not prevent you from contacting a regulator or exercising any other right available under applicable law.
12.Your writing and AI
Your writing belongs to you.
TrameWeaver does not use the contents of your projects to train AI models, whether our own models or third-party models.
We also do not sell project content for AI training.
If TrameWeaver introduces optional AI-assisted features in future, we will explain how those features handle project content before they are introduced and update this Privacy Policy where appropriate.
Existing private project content will not be repurposed for AI training merely because an AI feature is added to TrameWeaver.
13.Sale of personal information and advertising
We do not sell your personal information.
We do not sell your writing.
We do not currently operate an advertising business or use your private project content to target advertising.
We do not provide your personal information to advertisers for behavioural advertising.
If our practices materially change in future, this Privacy Policy will be updated before those practices are introduced and any consent required by law will be obtained.
14.Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect information handled by TrameWeaver.
Depending on the system involved, these measures include:
- encrypted network connections;
- authenticated account access;
- database access controls and row-level security;
- restricted administrative and service credentials;
- separation of local and Cloud project workflows;
- entitlement and billing integrity controls;
- monitoring and reconciliation of important billing operations; and
- security practices provided by our infrastructure providers.
No system connected to the internet can guarantee absolute security.
For important writing, we recommend keeping your own independent exports in addition to any local or Cloud copies.
If a data breach occurs, we will investigate and take the steps required by applicable law.
15.Children and young people
TrameWeaver is intended for people aged 16 and over.
We recognise that writers and creative users may include young people aged 16 or 17. Where we process the personal information of a young person, we aim to handle that information in a way that is appropriate to their age and consistent with applicable privacy law.
If a user does not have the legal capacity to provide a required consent or enter into a paid transaction themselves, consent or authorisation from a parent or legal guardian may be required.
We do not knowingly seek to collect personal information from children under 16.
If you believe a person under 16 has created an account or provided personal information to TrameWeaver, contact hello@trameweaver.com so we can review the situation and take appropriate action.
16.Links and third-party services
TrameWeaver may link to websites or services operated by other organisations.
Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this Privacy Policy.
This includes services such as Paddle checkout and the optional TrameWeaver Discord community.
17.Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when TrameWeaver, our service providers, or applicable legal requirements change.
The date at the top of the policy will show when it was last updated.
If a change materially affects how we use existing personal information or materially affects your privacy rights, we will take reasonable steps to provide additional notice where appropriate or required by law.
